We would like to thank you for being part of our Hideout family. We know that there have been bumps and bruises along the way to get where we are today. But we want you to know that we, as an investment team, are fully committed to the success of The Hideout Golf and Resort.
In April, the relationship between The Hideout Golf Club and Resort and Mr. Stephen Bello mutually ended as Mr. Bello chose to pursue other opportunities. We would like to thank Mr. Bello for his time here at The Hideout. We would also like to wish him well on all his future endeavors.
Over the last few years, we have been searching for that one individual that would lead the facility into growth, success, and a well-organized functioning resort and community.
Our search is over! We not only have one, but three very enthusiastic, energetic, experienced, and willing team members to push the facility forward. Mick Jones, Cathryn Davis, and Gregory Shaw are the Executive Committee members representing The Hideout Golf Club and Resort. While they all have their areas of responsibility, they will collectively be the day-to-day decision makers in the operations of the resort.
LODGING NEWS

There have been and will continue to be many changes taking place here at The Hideout. We appreciate your patience as we look to make some improvements and repairs throughout the facility.
We are excited to announce that we will begin a cabin renovation program beginning the 2nd week in June. This project will include replacing the worn carpeting and install new laminate flooring in Cabins 1- 5. This project should be completed within three weeks as we work around the high occupancy season. We are also working with local vendors to replace the current patio furniture with rocking chairs and a table.
We are not far off from opening the pool. The concrete has been poured and we are slowly filling the pool. The chemicals will be added within the next week. The pool decking, which includes filling the big cracks and painting using a slip resistant coating, is also slated to be started the first week of June. Everything is to be completed for a pool opening on June 10th!

There are a lot of happenings taking place here at The Hideout. Many of those things take place behind the scenes that most guests don’t get to see.
A multitude of those tasks are accomplished by two extraordinary team members, our Electrical Engineer Steve Ferguson and our HVAC Technician Brandon Barton.
We are currently working on several projects which includes replacing and wall mounting 50” TCL TVs and the carpeting in cabins 1 – 5. We are also replacing 3 AC units. Steve recently built a beautiful outdoor bar so we can better serve our guests. Mr. Ferguson has also replaced all the 25, 30- and 50-amp utility boxes for our property owner RV lot and our RV’s which we rent.
These two gentlemen have had a tremendous positive impact on our property. We ALL sincerely thank them for their commitment to making our Resort better, every day.

Hello everyone, my name is Kevin Sickles, the executive chef of The Hideout. I've worked in kitchens up and down the east coast from Florida to New York City. Before coming to Texas, I was helping our previous chef David run a 3-star restaurant property in the Blue Ridge mountains in North Carolina. Now that I'm at The Hideout, I've been enjoying learning more about Texas-style barbecue (I'm used to the Lexington style from Eastern Carolina) and getting across the border to New Mexico to see my family every now and again. I am truly honored to be your Executive Chef.
I’d like to share our Mango BBQ Sauce recipe with you. We use it on our Texalina Sandwich.
Mango Barbecue Sauce
3 Cup Ketchup
1 Cup Brown Sugar
1 Quart Peeled Mango (Frozen works just fine)
1/2 Cup Soy Sauce
1/4 Cup Worcestershire Sauce
1 2" Knob Ginger
1/2 Cup Garlic Cloves
Remove the skin from the ginger by gently rubbing the outside with a metal spoon. If using fresh mango, peel the skin with a vegetable peeler. Slice the flesh from around the pit of the fruit and reserve. Combine all the ingredients other than the ketchup in a mixer or food processor and blend until smooth. Blend the mango mixture into the ketchup. There should be enough salinity from the soy sauce but taste the sauce and season to your liking with salt and black pepper.

I was born and raised in Lubbock, Tx, and just made Lake Brownwood our permanent residence as of March 2022. I attended Oklahoma Panhandle State University on a football scholarship and graduated with a degree in Business Administration in 2010. I have spent much of my professional career working in the Banking/Finance industry as an analyst and lender. I am married to my high school sweetheart Krisha, and we have two boys Major and Jett. We spend most of our time chasing our boys around, but also enjoy exploring hill country and exploring new food spots. We are excited to be Brownwood residents and raise our family on the lake and in the great community Brownwood continues to provide. I am excited to be a part of the Hideout team, and work with our team to provide a great experience for everyone that visits the Hideout. We have many activities planned for this summer.

The Sales Center has been hustling this past couple of months to bring about lots of positive changes to kick us into summer with a new look for our team and the way we do business!
Our longest-standing salesman, Bob Powell, and our Director of Operations, EJ Davis, have embarked upon new endeavors and we wish them all the luck! We are thrilled to announce that Noah Marlin, our previous contract administrator, is stepping into the role of Office Manager. Congrats Noah! Also, please welcome the following new members to our team: Jerry Sumners - our newest Salesman (also a homeowner in our Hideout community); Wylon Kolts - Business Development Representative and Marketing/Social Media Specialist; Jamie Knickerson - Client Outreach Technician.
You may have all seen our latest spec home in The Oaks at 14, grow remarkably closer to its completion. We congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Felton, one of our newest and sweetest couples, for the purchase of this beautiful home built by the Hutchins Brothers, as we welcome them to our community. We are breaking ground now on another spec home, purchased by another family, whom we shall introduce here very soon! If anyone is interested, or if anyone should know of someone that may be interested, in purchasing one of our spec homes, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at the sales office and ask us about the amazing spec home program that we offer. With all the changes and growth that we've seen at the resort over the past few months, it is our intention to host an informal gathering over breakfast, every second Saturday of each month, at the Sales Office. At least one of The Hideout Executive Committee Members will attend to answer any questions, comments, or concerns from property owners regarding the resort and its development. We will keep it to a manageable number so please call the sales office to book a seat and a plate. The first one will be on June 11th and will start at 8.30 am. Kevin Sickles, our Executive Chef, will be preparing a continental breakfast… so come hungry! These meetings are a good-faith gesture as we hope to keep these positive and informative for all who attend!
Some rumors have been building up regarding Brooksmith water taps being unavailable to new property owners. Please rest assured that, although we do have some logistics that we are discussing with Brooksmith regarding handling future growth, the situation is in hand, and discussions with the board at Brooksmith are positive and ongoing. Property owners at The Hideout are not being denied water and there is no reason to be alarmed or concerned.
We are working very hard to put together the next Property Owner’s Association (POA) meeting. We are tentatively scheduling the meeting for the August/September timeframe. As soon as we have more solid information that allows us to narrow a date down, we will inform you all of those specifics.
I am extremely honored and excited to be a part of moving the resort into its next phase of growth and I look forward to meeting each and every one of you. I would be more than happy to answer any Hideout sales and/or real estate questions that you may have. We also have range finders, golf GPS watches, golf towels and more golf accessories available.
Have you seen our tournament schedule for the year? If not, we can certainly email that to you. We do host eight tournaments a year. We have one tournament per month from March – October. There are three Couple’s tournaments a year. We have our Spring Couples in April, Summer Couples event in July, and our ever so popular Fall Couples event during Halloween in October.

GOLF PRO TIP: To improve your iron play, move up one tee box (from where you regularly play) and use irons only during the round. The repetition and versatility of the iron play will improve your iron misses during your regular rounds.

Boston, Massachusetts is my hometown. I grew up on fresh seafood, worked summers on the Martha Vineyard shucking clams and oysters, making “chowda,” and lobstering in Portland, Maine. Since then, I have traveled the world working for legends in the hospitality industry including Lawrence Rockefeller of Rock Resorts, Horst Schulze with Ritz Carlton Hotels and Adi Kohler on the Big Island of Hawaii at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.
It wasn’t until I moved to Texas, found my soulmate 30+ years ago, discovered barbecue and found that smoked meats match perfectly with Whiskey or Bourbon. This is what I call the Great American trifecta, a Texan bride, Barbecue, and Bourbon, all original American art forms. The music wasn’t bad either but please don’t ask me to dance the two-step! These loves of my life were all born in America and they all go together.
Yet, even in Texas, the reality that British people are coming to the states 245 years later is still a reality as we recently hired our new Director of Sales, Cathryn Davis. She was born in the Midlands, a small town called Peterborough in Lincolnshire, and moved to live in London soon after. At The Hideout, Cathryn will develop sales strategies to bring forth the goal of developing neighborhoods and lifestyle events through strategic partnerships and thoughtful tactics. Cat, as her friends call her, will start big with the launching of our partnership with Sweetwater TV. The Hideout will be a partner along with Scale Clothing, Bubba Knives, Bass Pro Shops, Mercury Motors, Nitro Boats, and Powerpole.
Next, I would like to introduce you to our new development partners, Rooted Development, 7Gen, and Costello. Rooted Development Services, operating out of Katy, TX, have spent many hours researching and working with our team on putting together a master plan for the resort. One of the most asked questions around The Hideout among landowners is; When will the roads get repaired? Good news! Rooted is assessing the current situation and a diagnostic approach is taking place beginning with measuring soil type.
Costello is a full-service civil engineering firm that has been operating in Texas for 30 years and prides itself on having an experienced team to produce results on time. A division of Costello, 7Gen oversees land planning and architecture and will implement a master plan that is safe, long-lasting, and more economical for the environment.
The Hideout’s Architectural review committee led by EJ Davis and assisted by Denice Sumner and Stephanie Dodds has been busy at work fine-tuning the standards to protect and increase your property values. This team is requesting property owners submit plans, plot maps, masonry plans, and roofing plans. The team is seeking another member preferably with an architectural degree that can assist builders and engineers in optimizing the space on your lot. The development team, along with support from the local team and myself are reviewing numerous projects including road repairs and signage, mailboxes, the highly anticipated marina, improvements to the WWTF, RV storage and sale agreements. The past year and a half have been hard on just about everyone. When we drafted this newsletter, the virus was in decline and normality would return. We would once again, be able to shake hands, give a hug, and enjoy a great big belly laugh. We continue to closely monitor the situation, and the safety of our guests is our highest priority. We will update you with our safety measures and status of events as they develop.
Not a week goes by that I don’t enjoy the extraordinary views of the sunrise or sunsets that central Texas affords us. These observations provide joyful mindfulness of how lucky we all are to have found Brownwood and The Hideout. But what moves me more are the people I have met in the past five months is the commitment to the property, the spirituality they provide one another, and how homeowners are committed to making The Hideout their forever home. We have witnessed young families moving into new homes, retirees transitioning into their new phase in life, and grandchildren visiting with new friends.
I’m pleased to share with you that homes are being built and families are moving into their completed homes. In addition, spec homes are under construction and have been met with tremendous interest as The Oaks at 14 is quickly becoming a neighborhood. In this edition of the “Hideout Happenings,” you will get to meet Kobe Coker and his journey to becoming the Assistant Golf Pro then discover the golf tournaments that our Director of Golf, Mick Jones, has developed. You will get to learn more about Chef David Wohrle and his desire to create menus that provide healthy eating and sustainability in addition to some of the ingredients he uses in meals on the grill menu. Then you will get to meet another one of our incredible employees, Zach Hager, the Golf Course Assistant Superintendent. Lastly, please thank the incredible student-athletes that served us this summer and get to know a little more about each one of these future leaders.
With some hesitation and confidence, we will return to the things we have missed or been denied. Summer is in full swing and the 4th of July presents a festive opportunity for us to reunite as families, friends, and loved ones. The Hideout Golf Club & Resort will host a four-day celebration from July 4-7, 2019, featuring an exciting program of activities. Guests can begin their experience with a stunning firework display over Lake Brownwood while dining on a savory meal on the scenic deck. They can spend the rest of the weekend socializing, indulging at cookouts, playing games, swimming and enjoying live music — and even competing in a golf tournament.
There’s never been a better time to make a family escape plan to The Hideout. Recent accommodation and amenity updates include three new Ranch Houses which can sleep up to six. Each features a full-size kitchen, living room, and fireplace. We’ve also added a full-service cabana to our swimming pool area, so you can grab refreshing treats and beverages in your swim attire. And of course, the new “Halfway House” comfort station located between #9 green and #10 tee area on our Championship Golf Course will surely be a popular spot all summer long.
Perhaps our biggest new facility offering is our fitness center, available for property owners and resort members to take full advantage of as part of their amenity package. Situated in the heart of The Hideout Resort in what used to be our Austin Stone “old” Pro Shop, the fitness center — led by Resort Activity Director, Sydney Rodriquez — will feature a wealth of fitness classes and exciting activities. Her new program will allow guests to maximize their usage of the swimming pool, tennis courts, pickle ball court, and, eventually, the new basketball area currently under construction behind the fitness center. This is a wonderful opportunity to give guests and future members an inside peak into the lifestyle they’ll enjoy at The Hideout.
The brand-new sound stage is also scheduled for completion this summer. Located behind the clubhouse, it will serve as Brown County’s best live music venue and can double as the perfect setting for birthday parties, anniversary celebrations and class reunions, to name a few.
Also on the lineup for July: trivia, karaoke and live music every Friday and Saturday night. Special dive-in movie showings at the swimming pool overlooking scenic Lake Brownwood are sure to be a summer night favorite. And of course, our traditional offerings including lake fishing, driving range, beach volleyball, tennis, pickle ball, kayaks, peddle boats and paddle boards ensure guests never have a shortage of amusements while on vacation at The Hideout. The month of June represents the kickoff of the summer season here at the resort. With more than $1M in new renovations in recent months, we are excited to share some of the new and exciting things that we will be introducing this season. The Hideout will now be offering water aerobics, swim lessons, Junior golf camps, a new fitness center, Monday Madness 2-person Twilight Scrambles and rounding out the month will be our Annual Couples Summer Bash Golf Tournament. This summer’s pool season has just gotten a lot better too because we added a brand-new full functioning cabana grill, located right next to the pool for everyone’s enjoyment! No need to change out of your swimsuit to enjoy a delicious snack or grab a drink.
Turning our attention to the golf course, our management team has recently purchased the new TFM Shield software. This product has been made available by E-Z-Go Textron as a monitoring system to control golf cart activity throughout the golf course. We will now have the ability to restrict golf cart traffic from entering any restricted areas and to keep them on the cart paths during inclement weather days.
Demand for our lodging here at the resort is at an all-time high with members and guests actively reserving our lodge rooms, cabins, as well as our new 2-bedroom ranch houses. Don’t forget to book your next stay here at The Hideout Golf Club & Resort as rooms are filling up fast!

Dear property owners, members, and friends,
Let me start off the month of May by reminding all of our members and guests about the exciting capital improvement projects that are all in full swing here at The Hideout Golf Club & Resort. Ownership has allowed us to remodel the previous Pro Shop building to house a new Fitness Center and Day Spa. Additionally, we have begun building a new swimming pool cabana with new men’s & women’s bathrooms, showers, and walk-up bar and full-service counter to service all of your food needs. We are excited and think this will be a great addition for the entire swim season here at the resort. Most of you have noticed the new staircase and rock work being done on the backside of the clubhouse, which will allow you to walk down to the new viewing area with a new entertainment stage and fire pits along with our new garden center, where we will be raising our own farm-to-table produce for our restaurant. Walking paths will allow for strolls around the club house, the new sales office and the ranch house sections leading to the restaurant garden. We just planted the first seedlings and can’t wait to watch them grow!
The golf course is in full swing of coming out of dormancy and the trees and fairways are all turning bright green. On a player note, I would like to take this time to remind all golfers to adhere to the cart rules of keeping their golf carts on the cart paths around all tees and greens. Slower players are encouraged to let faster players through to keep up with the custom of a 4-hour round of play and be sure to play ready golf at all times. Our resort dress policy, while playing the golf course, will not allow tee shirts, tank tops, or cut offs at any time. Collared Shirts will be a part of the new policy and each player will be asked to either wear a collared shirt or purchase one to conform to the stated policy. We appreciate your understanding and compliance.
Turning our attention to the lodging component at The Hideout, we are excited to begin offering the new two bedroom “Ranch Houses” with full kitchens and fireplaces to all of our members and guests. This offering will take place sometime in Mid-May and will be available to all members and Stay & Play guests who wish to come to The Hideout for a weekend getaway. Please note that all lodging reservations will be offered on a first come first serve basis. So, each of you need to make your outing plans sooner rather than later and reserve your space here at our Lodge.
In closing, be sure to visit our calendar of events on our website or on Facebook to make sure you don’t miss out on the opportunity to participate in one of our key “FUN” events throughout the season. The Kentucky Derby, Cinco de Mayo, and, what will become an annual event, our annual “Member Crawfish Open” which will take place in mid-May. Dear property owners, members, and friends,
First of all, I would like to take a minute and thank all of our members and subsequent guests for participating in the past two months club sponsored golf tournaments. Our Icicle Open and Mardi Gras & Gumbo Open have been huge successes with great participation. Other popular club-sponsored events included our 1st Annual St. Paddy’s Revenge Par 3 Challenge on St. Patrick’s Day, complete with green beer and burgers! Lastly, the golf staff will be conducting a Step Aside Scramble Golf Tournament on Sunday, March 31, 2019 beginning with a 1:00pm shotgun start. I have mentioned these events as we have been having great participation in our club sponsored tournaments and wanted to reach out to our entire membership to encourage you to begin participating in upcoming events. This is an excellent way to meet new people and enjoy our club to its fullest.
In addition to our golfing events, there are a number of social activities that have been going on here at the club:

We hope you had a chance to take advantage of these great “FUN” events sponsored by our club throughout the month of March and will plan on attending those in the coming months too. Additionally, we will host Live Music each and every Friday & Saturday evening beginning at 6:00pm. Our F&B Staff has been doing a great job in preparing food and drink specials for each of these “FUN” evenings.
Management has been working on a new stairway to the lower lawn area behind the clubhouse and are currently constructing a new entertainment deck for outdoor entertainment and a movie stage for our members and guests to enjoy throughout the spring, summer, and fall months. Additionally, new improvements are coming throughout the resort including: a Fitness Center, Halfway House (Between 9 & 10) on the golf course, deck & pool furniture, new Ranch Houses that will sleep up to 8 individuals, Special Event Tent, Garden for our Farm to Table concept for our Chef to enjoy, and a new golf cart storage area for all of our Private Cart owners to enjoy. I wanted to take this time and opportunity to introduce myself to each and every one of you, my name is W. Kit Thomson, PGA and I recently accepted the position as General Manager for The Hideout Golf Club & Resort. For the past two years I have been the General Manager & Director of Golf at April Sound Country Club in Montgomery, Texas. April Sound is one of 229 golf properties owned and operated by ClubCorp out of Dallas, Texas. I grew up in southern Kansas, attended Kansas State University, played golf and received a degree in Horticulture with specific interest in turf grass management. Our family has lived in Central Texas since 1978 and we consider ourselves true native Texans.
We are excited about the opportunities that have been afforded us here at The Hideout and will be introducing new weekly specials and monthly events through a calendar of events for everyone to have something to look forward to on a regular basis. Golf is about the “PEOPLE” and creating an atmosphere of “FUN” so that each of you will invite both family and friends to The Hideout.
The golf course is exceptional, should any of you avid golfers have a suggestion as to formats or a different activity that you would like to see happen at The Hideout please bring it to our attention. Additional amenities such as Tennis, Pickleball, Corn Hole, and a Fitness Center are being discussed for your enjoyment.

One of the final golf events for this calendar year is coming up and we are proud to co-host the Junior Central Texas Winter Classic together with the Brownwood Country Club. Registration is open to junior golfers of all ages.

It has been quite some time since our last official newsletter and I am writing you to share some exciting news. After a significant investment in the resort, we are pleased to announce that we are open for business with a renovated clubhouse, a new restaurant concept, new infrastructure for members, weekly live music and fun events and so much more. To keep you up to date this newsletter will be published monthly going forward.
There is so much to tell you, but I will start with this: We upgraded the resort membership for all property owners and resort members! Now you can book one consecutive week per calendar year, staying at the resort free of overnight charges. The stay is subject to advance reservation times and availability, so call our front desk to make arrangements and enjoy your stay with your family and friends!
